Ethan and Dylan shared a pizza. Ethan said, "I ate 3/8 of the pizza." Dylan said, "I ate 3/4 of the pizza." Clarence said, "That's impossible." Is Clarence right or wrong? Explain your answer!
Ethan and Dylan shared a pizza. Ethan said, "I ate 3/8 of the pizza." Dylan said, "I ate 3/4 of the pizza." Clarence said, "That's impossible." Is Clarence right or wrong? Explain your answer!
Clarence is right because 3/8 plus 3/4 is 9/8. 9/8 is a improper fraction. 9/8 is equvalent to 1 1/8 pizzas. They could not have shared one pizza they would have had to have shared two pizzas.
It is impossible to eat 3/8 and 3/4 of the same pizza. Calculate: 3/8 + 3/4 = 3/8 + 6/8 = 9/8 which is > a whole pizza. Explain: A whole pizza = 1 or 8/8. Clarence is right. 9/8 is 1/8 > than a whole.

Clarence is right because 3/8 cuts into the 1/4 and so if Dylan ate 3/4 you would have to get another pizza.
I changed the fractions to have the same denominator. The new fractions are
3/8 = 3/8 and 3/4 = 6/8
That equals 9/8. so Clarence is right that it is impossible for Dylan to have eaten that much because it equal more then a whole pizza.

Clarence is right because 3/4 is equal to 6/8 and so it is impossible that Ethan ate 3 pieces when Dylan already ate 6.
Clarence is right because They both ate more than 1 whole pizza
It is impossible to eat 3/8 and 3/4 of the same pizza.
Calculate: 3/8 + 3/4 = 3/8 + 6/8 = 9/8 which is > a whole pizza.

clarence is correct because even if the pizza could be divided in 4ths and 8ths there would have to be two pizza's
3/8 + 3/8 + 3/8= 9/8 Clarence is right.
Explaination:
3/8=0.375
3/4=0.75
0.375
+0.750=1.125
Clarence is right!
Clarence is right because their is not enough pizza.
3/8 + 3/4 = 1 1/8
Either Ethan or Dylan ate 1/8 less than they said
Ethan ate 3/8 of the pizza
Dylan said he ate 3/4 = 6/8
3/8 + 6/8 = 9/8
9/8 is more than one whole
Clarence was right that was impossible.
Clarence is right. I ate 3/4 of the pizza and that only left 1/4 which is 2/8 so Ethan could not have eaten 3/8 of the pizza.
Clarence is correct because if Dylan ate 3/4 (6/8) and Ethan ate 3/8, it would be an improper fraction, more than the whole pizza.
E = 3/8
D= 3/4 = 6/8
E+D = Total
3/8 + 6/8 = 9/8
9/8 is more than a whole, so Clarence is right.

E+D = Total
3/8 + 6/8 = 9/8
9/8 is more than a whole, so Clarence is right.
